When considering the intersection of sleep and autism, several ethical questions should be considered. It's vital to approach research, treatment, and support for individuals with autism and sleep issues with sensitivity and respect for their rights and well-being. This can be done by emphasizing the importance of specialized sleep-change programs and highlighting their distinctions from standard behavior plans when working with families and children struggling with sleep issues.
This approach aligns with the recognition that sleep is a critical aspect of well-being, particularly for children, and that tailored interventions may be necessary. In this CPD, we take into account some considerations and questions that might be relevant to ensure the highest ethical quality of care in sleep-change programs.
