Speech and Language Therapists work with parents to support communication with their child in the home environment focusing on attention and listening skills, nonverbal skills, gesture, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication Systems) and early vocabulary development. The program reviews various methodologies in functional communication and vocabulary skills including reviews of commonly known systems in use including PECS, and Hanen.
The program outlines an SLT's goals for vocabulary development, sentence structure and may train others how to use visual helpers and schedules in school to support communication in the classroom.
